WSC men throwers post big marks in NSIC Championship tuneups

            Wayne State throwers Sam Zazueta and Jaxson Ninete both broke the 200-foot mark with NCAA provisional marks in the hammer throw to lead the Wildcat men's track and field team at the Tim Marshall Invite Saturday in Mankato, Minnesota and South Dakota Challenge held Friday and Saturday in Vermillion.
            Zazueta won the hammer throw with a toss of 204' 9" at the Tim Marshall Invite with fellow Wildcat Ninete right behind at 204' 2" to place second.  Both are now the top two marks in the NSIC and rank 17th and 19th respectively in NCAA Division II.  Ninete also had an eighth-place finish in the hammer throw at the Marshall Invite at 159' 0".
            At the South Dakota Challenge Friday, Zazueta was second in the hammer throw (185' 3") followed by Jake Peitz in third at 175' 10", Alex Altman fifth (172' 0"), Matthew Logue sixth (166' 0") and Joshua Olesen eighth at 161' 11".
            William Keller was fifth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:17.28) and Devon Schultz was eighth in the pole vault with a top mark of 15' 11 ¼".
            Saturday in Vermillion at the South Dakota Challenge, freshman Bryce Larsen won the triple jump with a leap of 48' 10 ¼", now the fourth-best mark in the NSIC. 
            Sophomore Mitchell Hupp was third in the 100-meter dash in 10.65 seconds with Osman Saeed taking fourth in the 400-meter dash at 47.59 seconds.
            Bryce Faimon was third in the long jump at 22' 8 ½" followed by Elliott Nottlemann in fourth (22' ¼") and Ty Dingman seventh at 21' 4 ¼".  Nottlemann also had a fifth-place effort in the high jump clearing 6' 4".
            Matthew Logue was third in the javelin throw (146' 2") and seventh in the discus (137' 3") while Joe Dewald took seventh in the javelin at 133' 5". 
            The 4 x 100-meter relay team of Alex Leuenberger, Saeed, Luke Klabenes and Hupp came in second place with a season-best time of 40.94 seconds. 
            The Wildcats will travel to Duluth, Minnesota next weekend for the Northern Sun Conference Outdoor Championships with multi-events Thursday followed by the prelims Friday and finals Saturday.
