Wildcat Classic Final Results
The Wayne State College women's track and field team opened the 2023 outdoor season with three event wins at the Wildcat Classic held Saturday at Leroy Simpson Track in Wayne. The meet attracted 14 teams ranging from NCAA Division I and II schools to NAIA.
The Wildcats had four of the top eight finishes in the hammer throw as
Brooklynn Chipps took first at 192' 4" with teammate
Mckenzie Scheil right behind in second at 191' 9". Both were NCAA provisional marks.
Kendra Paasch was fifth in the hammer throw (160' 11") and
Hailey Baker took eighth at 156' 0".
Emily Smollen and
Keyla Sambo each recorded first place finishes in the jumps. Smollen had a mark of 17' 8 ¼" to win the long jump and was second in the triple jump (35' 6") while Sambo was first in the triple jump at 35' 11 ½" and was third in the long jump at 16' 10 ¾".
Sophomore
Reilly Young recorded an NCAA provisional mark in the discus, taking second at 161' 10 ¼" while teammate
Kendra Paasch was fifth at 147' 7 ¼".
Senior sprinter
Sarah Cotton collected a second-place finish in the 100-meter dash in 12.57 seconds and was third in the 200-meter dash at 26.01 seconds while sophomore
Maya Couch earned a third-place finish in the 100-meter dash in 12.60 seconds.
Freshman
Anna Coffee posted a second-place finish in the finals of the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.49 seconds.
In the 1,500-meter run,
Kelsey Larsen picked up a third-place finish in 5:07.51,
Kylie Pachta was fifth at 5:09.70 and
Alison Stineman came in eighth place at 5:13.78.
Two Wildcats placed in the shot put as
Mckenzie Scheil came in sixth place at 43' 1" followed by
Kendra Paasch in seventh at 42' 4 ¼".
The Wildcat 4 x 400 meter relay team of
Kenzie Mosel, Stineman, Pachta and
Faith Polacek closed the day with a third place time of 4:20.48.
Wayne State will compete again next Saturday at the Central Nebraska Invite hosted by Nebraska-Kearney.
