Wattier earns All-NSIC honors in hurdles during final day of NSIC Outdoor Track and Field Championships

Final Results 2023 NSIC Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championships

            Freshman Keaton Wattier earned All-NSIC honors with a third-place finish Saturday to lead the Wayne State College men's track and field team on the final day of the 2023 Northern Sun Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships in St. Paul, Minnesota.  As a team, Wayne State ended seventh in the team standings with 65 points.
            Minnesota State captured the men's team title for an 11th straight year scoring 207 points with MSU Moorhead second at 91 points.  Augustana (88), University of Mary (83) and Minnesota Duluth (71.5) rounded out the top five teams.  Sioux Falls edged Wayne State 67-65 for sixth place while Northern State (52), Minot State (41) and Concordia-St. Paul (31) closed out the top 10 teams. 
            Wayne State had two NSIC individual champions and two athletes earn All-NSIC honors during the meet.
            Debonaire Williams was the individual champion in the decathlon while junior Dylan Kneifl won the high jump.
            Williams won four of the 10 events in the decathlon to be crowned NSIC champion with 6,308 points.  He took first place in the 100-meter dash (11.23), 110 high hurdles (15.62), long jump (21' 10 ¾") and discus (122' 3").
            Kneifl collected a first-place finish in the high jump clearing 6' 7 ½" for the other Wildcat NSIC champion on the opening day. 
            Saturday, freshman Keaton Wattier placed third in the 110-meter high hurdles in a time of 14.75 seconds to earn All-NSIC honors.
            Wayne State had one other All-NSIC finish on Friday as sophomore Logan Moeller finished third in the long jump with a best mark of 23' 9 ½" with teammate Mason Lee right behind in fourth at 23' 3 ¼".
            Junior Titus Kiptoo earned a fourth-place finish in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 31:44.57. 
            Jake Peitz took fifth in the hammer throw at 169' 8" with Grant Fritsch taking eighth (163' 2").
            Two Wildcats medaled in the triple jump with Logan Moeller taking fifth at 46' 3 ½" and Cody Rogers placing eighth at 43' 10". 
            Sixth place finishes were recorded by freshman Jarrett McQueen scoring 5,434 points while sophomore Daniel Elge had a sixth-place mark in the shot put with a top throw of 49' 11 ¾".
            Eighth place medals went to Alex Brandt in the javelin throw (146' 7") and Quentin Dreyer in the 1,500-meter run at 3:54.56.
            The Wildcat 4 x 400-meter relay team of Mitchell Rudie, Austin Madsen, Alex Leuenberger and Gabe Peitz took sixth at 3:23.24 while the 4 x 100-meter quartet of Caid McCart, Wyatt Nissen, Rudie and Williams came in seventh place with a time of 43.05 seconds.
