The Wayne State women's indoor track and field team scored 68 points to place third out of 12 teams at the Mark Schuck Invitational hosted by Minnesota State in Mankato, Minnesota Friday and Saturday at Myers Fieldhouse.
Host Minnesota State captured the team title with 352.5 points followed by Sioux Falls in second place at 80 and Wayne State third with 69 points, one more than Carleton's 68 points in fourth. Southwest Minnesota State (65.5), Winona State (56.5) and Concordia-St. Paul (43) closed out the top seven teams.
Freshman
Callie Kirchner had the top Wildcat finish, taking third in the 3,000-meter run at 11:19.06. Wildcat teammates
Madeline Kunz and
Sydney Escritt took fourth and fifth with times of 11:29.52 and 11:29.90 followed by
Maelee Beacom in seventh at 11:56.81.
In the throws, sophomore
Olivia Schwarzrock was fourth in the weight throw (54' 1 ¼") and seventh in the shot put (38' 11 ¾) while
Hailey Baker took fifth in the shot put (39' 5 ¼") and sixth in the weight throw at 52' 9 ½".
Maya Couch placed in a pair of sprint events – fourth in the 200-meter dash (26.24) and seventh in the 60-meter dash (8.02).
Sarah Cotton picked up a pair of seventh place finishes in the 200-meter dash (26.67) and 300-meter dash (43.03).
In the long jump,
Emily Smollen finished fifth at 16' 6" and
Keyla Sambo eighth at 16' 3".
Sophomore
Anna Coffee posted a fifth-place finish in the pentathlon scoring 3,198 points and sophomore
Jozlyn Barnes collected a fifth-place finish in the 800-meter run at 2:29.49.
The Wildcat 4 x 400-meter relay team of Cotton,
Kylie Pachta, Barnes and
Faith Polacek placed second in a time of 4:15.34 and the distance medley relay quartet of Pachta, Barnes, Polacek and
Alison Stineman took third at 13:00.78.
Wayne State competes again next weekend on Friday and Saturday at the Northwest Missouri State Bearcat Classic in Maryville, Missouri.
