Junior
Maya Couch and sophomore
Sydney Escritt each recorded event wins to lead the Wayne State College women's track and field team Friday at the Concordia Indoor Invitational held in Seward. Teams competing at the meet were host Concordia along with Bellevue, Benedictine (Kan.), College of St. Mary, Doane, Hastings and Wayne State.
Couch, a junior sprinter from David City (David City HS), crossed the tape first in the 200-meter dash in 25.95 seconds and was third in the 60-meter dash finals in 7.85 seconds.
Escritt, a sophomore from Hebron (Thayer Central HS), led a 1-2-3 sweep in the event for the Wildcats taking first place with a time of 11:22.40.
Madeline Kunz followed in second place at 11:33.37 with
Maelee Beacom third in 11:37.13.
Junior
Emily Smollen was second in the long jump at 17' 4 ¼" while sophomore
Lindsey Kneifl came in sixth at 16' 10 ¾".
Sophomore
Olivia Schwarzrock earned a third-place finish in the shot put at 43' 9 ¾" and took sixth in the weight throw at 54' 2 ¾".
In the 800-meter run,
Faith Polacek took fifth with a time of 2:26.16,
Kelsey Larsen seventh at 2:26.78 and
Jozlyn Barnes eighth at 2:27.35.
Kylie Pachta and
Callie Kirchner placed third and fourth respectively in the 1,000-meter run with times of 3:08.38 and 3:12.58.
Senior
Alison Stineman recorded a third-place finish in the one mile run (5:23.93) followed by Kirchner in fourth at 5:28.26.
In the 60-meter hurdles finals, sophomore
Anna Coffee came in sixth place at 10.01 seconds.
Freshman
Jerika Bakenhus was fifth in the high jump clearing 4' 11", senior
Keyla Sambo posted a sixth place finish in the triple jump with a mark of 35' 6" and
Hailey Baker had a seventh-place finish in the weight throw with a mark of 53' 3 ¾".
Wayne State will compete again on Friday, February 16
th at the SDSU Last Chance Invite in Brookings, South Dakota.
