Hailey Baker and
Reilly Young posted event wins with NCAA provisional marks to lead the Wayne State women's track and field team Friday in the 17
th annual Wildcat Classic at LeRoy Simpson Track/Cunningham Field in Wayne. Overall, Wayne State had three event wins on the day.
Junior
Reilly Young captured first-place in the discus with an NCAA provisional mark of 154' 0" with Wayne freshman
Brooklyn Kruse taking fifth at 139' 5".
Hailey Baker matched Young with an event win and NCAA provisional mark in the hammer throw taking the top spot with a mark of 176' 5". She also finished sixth in the shot put at 40' 10 ¼".
Wayne State's other event win came from sophomore
Anna Coffee in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.30 seconds. She also posted a third-place finish in the javelin at 113' 3".
Second place finishes were produced by
Maya Couch in the 100-meter dash at 12.63 seconds and
Emily Smollen in the long jump with a mark of 17' 1 ½".
Paige Condon placed third in the 100-meter hurdles (15.62) and took fifth in the high jump clearing 5' 1".
In the 800-meter run, freshman
Callie Kirchner placed fourth in a time of 2:23.47 with
Jozlyn Barnes eighth at 2:27.55.
Other top Wildcat finishers saw
Sarah Cotton take fifth in the 200-meter dash (27.26),
Lindsey Kneifl was sixth in the long jump (16; 8 ¾") with
Keyla Sambo seventh at 16' 6",
McKenna Markle was sixth in the hammer throw at 162' 3",
Madeline Kunz sixth (20:40.14) and
Kelsey Larsen seventh (20:41.96) in the 5,000-meter run with
Kylie Pachta and
Alison Stineman taking seventh and eighth respectively in the 1,500-meter run with times of 5:00.94 and 5:01.14.
Wayne State's 4 x 400-meter relay team of Kirchner, Pachta, Stineman and
Faith Polacek finishing third with a time of 4:25.16.
Wayne State will compete again next Friday and Saturday at the Concordia Invite in Seward.
