The Wayne State men won two events at the NCAA Showdown indoor track and field meet held Saturday at Ron Holt Track in the Wildcat Dome. The meet attracted teams from Augustana, Black Hills State, Chadron State, Nebraska-Kearney, Sioux Falls, Southwest Minnesota State and Wayne State.
Event wins for the Wildcats came from senior
Mitchell Rudie in the 600-meter run at 1:25.36 while freshman
Matt Richardson took first-place in the 1,000-meter run at 2:37.95.
Brown, a junior transfer from Iowa Western CC, earned a second-place finish in the high jump at 6' 8 ¼". Teammates
Elliott Nottlemann came in fifth place (6' 4 ¼") with freshman
Bryce Faimon taking sixth at 6' 4 ¼".
Junior
Devon Schultz took second place in the pole vault clearing 15' 3".
In the long jump, Faimon came in third at 22' 7" with junior
Ty Dingman seventh at 21' 4 ¼".
The weight throw saw Wayne State take four of the top six finishes with sophomore
Samuel Zazueta second at 59' 0",
J'Dyn Bullion was third at 58' 1 ¾",
Jaxson Ninete fourth (56' 10 ¾") and
Jake Peitz sixth (53' 6 ¼").
In the 1,000-meter run, freshman Drew Martin was second (2:39.87) followed by
Gannon Walsh in third (2:44.04) and
Simeon Weers fourth at 2:59.04).
Other top Wildcat finishers were
Osman Saeed third in the 400-meter dash (48.88),
Bryce Larsen took fifth in the triple jump (43' 11 ¾") and
Alex Leuenberger was eighth in the 400-meter dash at 49.74 seconds.
The 4 x 400-meter relay team of Leuenberger, Saeed,
Henry Hushka and
Mujeeb Adewuyi came in third place in a time of 3;19.45.
Wayne State competes again next weekend traveling to Mankato, Minnesota for the Mark Schuck Open hosted by Minnesota State Friday and Saturday.
