Quentin Dreyer's second place finish in the 3,000-meter run was the top finish for the Wayne State men's indoor track and field team at season-opening SDSU Holiday Invite Friday afternoon and evening at the Sanford Jackrabbit Athletic Complex in Brookings, South Dakota. The meet attracted over 20 teams from NCAA Division I, II and III ranks along with NAIA teams.
Dreyer's time in the 3,000-meter run was 8:41.91 to place second overall.
In the 600-meter run, freshman
Ethan Walters crossed the line in fourth place at 1:24.58 followed by junior
Brody Lucas in ninth at 1:25.93. Freshman
Akron Jostand took eighth in the one mile run in a time of 4;35.43.
Senior thrower
Daniel Elge posted top-10 finishes in the championship division of two events, taking ninth in the shot put at 49' 3 ¾" and was 10
th in the weight throw at 52; 9 ¼".
In the men's shot put, sophomore
Jaxson Ninete was eighth with a top mark of 47' 5 ¼".
The weight throw saw sophomore
J'Dyn Bullion take second (54' 2"),
Jake Peitz eighth (49' ¾") and
Braden McGill 10
th at 48' 2 ½".
Freshman
Mitchell Hupp placed sixth in the 200-meter dash in a time of 22.06 seconds while sophomore
Elliott Nottlemann earned a ninth-place finish in the high jump clearing 6' 2 ¾".
Wayne State resumes the 2025 indoor track and field schedule on Saturday, January 18
th at the Mount Marty Invitational in Yankton, South Dakota.
