Wildcat Open Final Men's Results

Sophomore Cody Diehl reached an NCAA provisional national qualifying mark with a mark of 15' 9" Saturday to highlight the Wayne State College men's indoor track and field team at the Wildcat Open held at the WSC Recreation Center.  Other teams competing in the meet included Iowa Western CC, Mount Marty, Nebraska-Omaha women, South Dakota School of Mines and University of Sioux Falls.

Overall, the WSC men had six first place finishes at the meet with one new school record and the provisional qualifying mark by Diehl.  Other individual winners included Brad Wright in the weight throw (55' 11 3/4"), Andy Jansen in the 800 meter run (2:01.26) and Cheto Cerda in the 1000 meter run (2:37.62).  The other wins were by relay teams as the 4 x 400 meter relay team of Kenneth Moore, Mickey Doerr, Joe Chebul and Jason Schaaf crossed the line first in 3:48.17 and the 4 x one mile relay team of Cheto Cerda, Lee Anderson, John Kern and Nate Preston set a new school record with a time of 18:22.32, breaking the previous mark of 18:51.4 set by Mark Merritt, Donnty Thongby, Chris Garvin and James McGown in 1995.

Wayne State will compete next weekend in the Nebraska Tuneup Open in Lincoln on Friday, February 19th.
