Kern sets new school record in 1500 meter run at Northwestern College Invite

                Senior John Kern set a new school record while winning the 1,500 meter run Saturday to highlight the Wayne State College men's track and field team competing at the Northwestern College Invite in Orange City, Iowa.  The meet was called early due to lightning. The men's and women's 4 x 400 meter relays not run along with the second heat of the 5,000 meter men's run.  Field events that were not completed due to the bad weather included the men's javelin and women's discus. 

                The Wildcat men's team posted a pair of first place finishes along with one new school record.  Senior distance runner John Kern won the 1,500 meter run with a new school record time of 3:56.46, breaking the previous school mark of 3:59.61 held by Matt Schneider in 2006.  The other first place finish was recorded by junior sprinter Andrew Jansen in the 400 meter dash with a time of 49.04 seconds.

                Other top finishers for the WSC men's team included Jeff Mills placing second in the pole vault at 14' 9”, Alex Timperley was third in the triple jump at 45' 2 ¼” and Aaron Garza was fifth in the 400 meter dash at 50.78 seconds.  The men's 4 x 800 meter relay team of Lee Anderson, Garrett Zoucha, Aaron Garza and Andrew Jansen came in second with a  time of 8:07.13. 

                Wayne State will compete at the Sioux City Relays on Friday and Saturday, April 15-16th.
