Sophomore
Jaxson Ninete had a pair of second-place finishes in the discus and hammer throw as the top performances for the Wayne State men's track and field team Saturday at the Concordia Invite. The Wildcat team was split this weekend as throwers competed Saturday in Seward with distance runners participating in the USD Early Bird Meet Friday at Vermillion.
Ninete, a sophomore from Elkhorn, finished second in the discus at 155'2" and had another second-place effort in the hammer throw with a toss of 178' 2".
Daylin Mallory was third in the discus at 154' 4" with
Samuel Zazueta seventh (140' 3") and
Braden McGill eighth at 133' 5".
In the hammer throw, Zazueta was fifth (162' 9"),
Alex Altman seventh (157' 5") and
Jake Peitz eighth (155' 9'). Peitz also collected a third-place finish in the shot put at 46' ¾" and
Matthew Logue was ninth in the javelin (153' 4").
The top finishers for the Wildcats at the USD Early Bird Meet Friday in Vermillion were senior
Brandon Mitzel taking 10
th in the 3000-meter steeplechase at 10:35.69 and
Quentin Dreyer was 13
th in the 1,500-meter run at 3:58.01.
Wayne State is at the Sioux City Relays Friday and will compete at the South Dakota Invite in Vermillion next Saturday.
