Sioux City Relays Final Results
The Wayne State College men's track and field team competed at the Sioux City Relays Friday and Saturday in Sioux City, Iowa while several Wildcat throwers also competed Saturday at the Concordia Invitational in Seward, Nebraska.
The WSC men's team registered two first place finishes at the Sioux City Relays with one NCAA provisional mark. Senior distance runner John Kern crossed the line first in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 9:13.22, improving on his NCAA provisional mark of 9:17.68 set at the Vance Butler Invite in Sioux Falls two weeks ago. Kern also earned a second place finish in the 1,500 meter run at 4:02.00. The other first place finish was by junior sprinter Andrew Jansen in the 400 meter dash in 50.24 seconds.
Other top five finishers for the Wildcat men included Alex Timperley taking second in the triple jump at 45' ¼”, Jeff Mills cleared 13' 6” to take second in the pole vault and Aaron Garza was fifth in the 800 meter run in 1:59.32. The men's 1600 sprint medley relay team of Michael King, Mickey Doerr, Andrew Jansen and Aaron Garza took third place with a time of 3:34.13.
At the Concordia Invitational in Seward, junior thrower Ross Bunchek won the hammer throw with a new school record and NCAA provisional mark of 196' 10”. Tyler DeWit finished ninth in the shot put at 48' 4 ¾” while Brad Wright collected a ninth place finish in the discus at 147' 0”.
Wayne State will compete at the Nebraska Wesleyan Invitational in Lincoln, Nebraska on Friday, April 22nd.
