Freshman sprinter Mitchell Hupp set a new WSC school record in the prelims of the 100-meter dash and Wayne State senior thrower Daniel Elge turned in a pair of All-NSIC performances to lead the Wayne State men's track and field team on the opening day of the 2025 Northern Sun Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Duluth, Minnesota at Malosky Stadium.  As a team, Wayne State is in third place after the opening day with 37points, trailing only Minnesota State's 69 and MSU Moorhead just ahead of WSC in second with 39 points.
Hupp, a graduate of Stanton High School, put down a new school record time of 10.29 seconds in the 100-meter dash prelims to better the previous school mark of 10.55 seconds set by Clay Kramper in the 2018 season.  Hupp advanced to Saturday's final of the 100-meter dash with the third-fastest qualifying time in the event.             Elge, a senior from Aurora, started his day with a second-place finish in the hammer throw to collect All-NSIC honors at 189' 2".  He was one of five Wildcats to place in the event as WSC scored 19 points alone in the hammer throw.

Later in the day, Elge was the last athlete to make the finals in the shot put and produced a pair of personal-best marks on his final two throws to move from ninth to second in the event.  He finished with another All-NSIC performance and personal-best toss of 55' 10 1/2" on his final throw in finals to take second while junior Daylin Mallory also collected All-NSIC honors taking third in the event at 55' 3".
Other medal winners for Wayne State on Friday included sophomore Elliott Nottlemann in the high jump, finishing in a tie for fifth place after clearing 6' 5 1/2".  He also made the finals in the long jump but ended ninth at 22' 6 1/4".
