5/10/2025 9:48:00 PM

Freshman sprinter Emmanuel Badejo set a new NSIC meet record in winning the 400-meter dash while also anchoring the first-place 4 x 100-meter relay team and the second-place 4 x 400-meter relay team to lead the Wayne State men's track and field team on the final day of the 2025 Northern Sun Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Duluth, Minnesota at Malosky Stadium.  As a team, the Wildcats scored 81 points and was fourth place out of 14 teams with two NSIC champions and four other All-NSIC finishers during the three-day competition.
Minnesota State won a 13th consecutive men's team title with 194.5 points, well ahead of runner-up UMary with 112.  Northern State was third at 94.5 points followed by WSC (81), one point better than fifth-place Augustana at 80.
MSU Moorhead took sixth place with 72 points, Sioux Falls was next at 64 with Minnesota Duluth (48), Concordia-St. Paul (42) and Minot State (17) rounding out the top 10 teams.
Badejo, a native of Ijebu Ode, Nigeria, won the 400-meter dash in a new NSIC meet record time of 46.58 seconds, bettering the previous mark of 46.65 set last year by UMary's Raheem Taitt-Best.  Badejo also became the first Wildcat NSIC sprint champion since Ben Jansen won the 400-meter dash (49.30) back in the 2006 season.
Badejo also anchored the first-place 4 x 100-meter relay team with a winning time of 40.70 seconds, marking the first-time ever a Wildcat quartet has captured the gold in the event at an NSIC Championship.  Other members of the relay team were Luke Klabenes, Mitchell Hupp and Wyatt Nissen.
The final event of the day saw the Wildcat 4 x 400-meter quartet of Badejo, Alex Leuenberger, Mitchell Hupp and Wyatt Nissen close with an All-NSIC effort taking second in a time of 3:12.73,  a new school record by more than four seconds set April 25th (3;16.91) at the Drake Relays.
Stanton freshman sprinter Mitchell Hupp posted a pair of fourth-place finishes Saturday with times of 10.42 seconds in the 100-meter dash finals and later Saturday afternoon posting a time of 21.13 in the 200-meter dash final.  In Friday's prelims Hupp set a new WSC school record in the 100-meter dash with a clocking of 10.29 seconds to eclipse the previous school mark of 10.36 seconds set earlier this season by Badejo at the Wildcat Outdoor Classic (3/28/25).
Other medal winners Saturday included freshman Mujeeb Adewuyi taking fifth in the 110-meter high hurdles finals in 14.50 seconds while senior Quentin Dreyer placed seventh in the finals of 1,500-meter run at 3:53.93.

Elge, a senior from Aurora, started his day with a second-place finish in the hammer throw at 189' 2".  He was one of five Wildcats to place in the event as WSC scored 19 points alone in the hammer throw.  Sophomore Jaxson Ninete just missed All-NSIC honors in the hammer throw, taking fourth at 187' 9".  Other Wildcats earning medals in the event were Jake Peitz sixth with a mark of 171' 11", Alex Altman seventh (170' 10") and freshman Samuel Zazueta eighth at 170' 9".
