Bill Schwartz 

       

Wayne native Bill Schwartz was a standout baseball player at Wayne State College from 1979-82.  He still holds the school record for career home runs with 37 and ranks fourth in career runs batted in with 178.  Schwartz was a three-time All NAIA District 11 selection and was named First Team All Central States Intercollegiate Conference in 1981 after setting then school records with 18 homers, 67 RBI's and 61 hits during the season.

The first baseman was an NAIA honorable mention All-American selection in 1980 after hitting .384 with seven homers and 32 RBI's in his sophomore season.  Schwartz also played football at Wayne State for two seasons, playing defensive end. 

Schwartz was inducted into the WSC Athletics Hall of Fame on September 25, 2010. At the time of his induction, Schwartz resided in West Des Moines, Iowa and was a contractor and managing partner with Sanders Properties LLC.
