Sam Singleton

Sam Singleton was the first Wayne State athlete to gain 1,000 yards rushing in his career, which spanned from 1967-1971. He gained 1,111 yards in 1971, which ranks as the fifth-most yards in a single season in WSC school history. Singleton held the school record for most rushing attempts in a season and third on the career rushing list with 3,003 yards at the time of induction. He helped the Wildcats earn a berth in the Mineral Water Bowl in 1970, Wayne State's only post-season appearance to date.

Singleton earned four letters at Wayne State and received All-Nebraska Conference and All-District honors along with being selected to the Omaha World Herald State College All Star Team. He was also an honorable mention All-American selection.

Singleton was inducted into the Nebraska Football Hall of Fame on September 11, 2004 and is currently a high school football and track coach at Oakland Mills High School in Columbia, Maryland.

Singleton was inducted into the WSC Athletics Hall of Fame in the fall of 1985.
